Gwen’s story began on Friday, July 29, 2016.
That day, the SPCA of Texas seized 14 dogs that were being treated cruelly at a property in Kaufman County.
According to the news release on the SPCA website, there were 10 adults and 4 puppies in total. Two puppies and all the adults were chained to car axles that had been hammered into the ground. Two more puppies were found in a filthy shed.
None of the dogs had access to food or water and they had various health problems. One dog was so bad off she had to be given IV fluids at the property and later required a blood transfusion at the Emergency Rescue Center. That dog was Gwen.
When she was feeling up to it, Gwen got a bath with medicated shampoo.
Then she was examined. They determined she was going to recover.
At the SPCA, her routine included breakfast and a walk to stretch her legs and for some quality time outside. She was taught some basic commands like “sit”, and then allowed to play fetch and run!
After 47 days in the shelter, Gwen was cleared to make her debut on the adoption floor. Then a magical thing happened! On October 17, 2016, Gwen was adopted!
And the family was kind enough to share an update a month later.
